About the Journal
The journal ScriptUM, launched in 2015, is a multidisciplinary academic journal with anonymous peer review that addresses all facets of language. Its founding organization, VocUM, was born following the initiative of a group of graduate and postgraduate students from Université de Montréal working in different disciplines related to language: linguistics, translation, literature, modern language studies, etc. This common concern for language motivated the choice of the name "VocUM," derived from the Latin vocum, genitive plural of vox, which means "speech," "language," "maxim," "voice," "accent," or "discourse." By analogy, "ScriptUM" refers to the Latin word scriptum, meaning "writing," "text," or "letter." The primary aspiration of VocUM and ScriptUM is to create a space within Université de Montréal for graduate students, so that they can share the results of their research, and thus develop their skills in scientific presentation and writing. The final morpheme –um of both ScriptUM and VocUM also recalls the abbreviated form of the University of Montreal (commonly called "UdeM"), thus highlighting the affiliation of the colloquium and the journal with this institution.
Following an interruption of the journal's activities since 2020, a new editorial committee was established in September 2025 to relaunch the journal's primary mission.
